Join Me in Pittsburgh!

July 16-18 I will be in Pittsburgh for the Metropolitan Church Region 3

Peterson about to Transfigure

Peterson about to Transfigure

and 5 Conference.

In addition to performing Transfigurations–Transgressing Gender in the Bible, my play about gender-variant and transgender Bible characters, I will also offer a workshop.

Homo No Mo?!? Orientation Gender and the Ex-Gay Movement will provide participants to take part in a workshop that helps unearth the reasons why some people choose to de-gay themselves. In addition to looking at taboos around sexuality in a heterosexist culture, we will delve into the role that gender and more importantly gender norms ties into the Ex-Gay Movement. (How does changing the oil in my car make me a proper male? Am I gay if I opt for Jiffy Lube???). In the presentation I will do excerpts from Doin’ Time in the Homo No Mo Halfway House–How I Survived the Ex-Gay Movement and will read an excerpt of my memoir (which I just began writing last month!)

While I am in the Pittsburgh-area I would love to meet up with groups of folks–Quakers, transgender people, gay Christian, ex-gay survivors, bloggers. Please consider coming to the conference and then we can figure a way to hang out.

The organizers are still working out the schedule, but I wanted to give folks a heads-up. If you are interested, let me know.

Oh my God Peterson, you are sooo in touch with your feminine side! I wouldn’t recognise you if I saw you in the street! Would love to see you looking like that. E mail me and tell me how you do those eyebrows! Guess it’s time for transfigurations to get to these shores! (laughs)..

I must add too, that it is an amazing transformation; the look, the attitude, guess the state of mind in your moment of presantation too! Am wowed…

I have got to see you live one day!!! We’re going to make this happen. We *are*. Not just because I’d like to really see what that picture’s about, either.

I’m going to Pittsburgh, but close to Christmas. L’Ailee and I, getting increasingly Stanley Cup-crazed over the past two months, decided in a fit of bourbon-and-Pepsi-fueled brilliance that we are going to skip Christmas with my relatives, some of whom are quite difficult, and go watch our hockey teams in their own venues instead. (She’s a huge Detroit fan and initiated me into hockey fandom.)

I’m guessing the ex-gay ministers wouldn’t find that sufficiently feminine, either, even though I always wear lipstick and perfume with those Sidney Crosby replica jerseys. Worse yet, I can change a car’s oil without a problem. My widowed mother taught my brother and I how to take care of ourselves “just in case.” We think it’s a gift, but I know these ministries would consider it a curse even for a straight boy like my brother.

I look forward to reading your insights about the city (um, how is it for vegetarians?) and about gender. If you need tips on how to minimize the pain of eyebrow plucking, please, let me know. L’Ailee and I both have devoted way too much time to this pursuit since before our teens. Also, so so glad to read that you started a memoir!!!!

And about the make over, yeah we must do that if or when you are here. I don’t use that much make up though (you know that). In my case, a little goes a long way and I mean every word. Just dont forget to share with me some top make up secrets! lol

Hope you manage to have a good get together when you are in Pittsburgh.

Delighted to hear you’ve started writing your memoirs. Are you going to have a competition with Glen to see who gets a higher position in the book charts – tee hee?

Jox, Oooo, a little competition is the BEST thing for cranking out the writing!

    Peter,

I love Pittsburgh! You’ll enjoy the city.

You may want to contact Pittsburgh Friends Meeting http://www.quaker.org/pghpamm I have sojourned with them before and found them to be very nice folks. I would love to see your show but I think that is around the same time as Yearly Meeting 🙁

    Rock on Friend,

    John L-M

You were in my dream last night as the character pictured above, FYI.

Brian, I do hope the character behaved. If not, I am not responsible. 😛
