Pursuing Passions in a World of Need — an online encounter

Event Details

Richmond Friends Meeting cannot have their regular retreat this year, but they decided to create an on-line series of events for members of the meeting. Originally they asked Peterson to come to Richmond to lead presentations and perform, and now he will adapt his presentations for the virtual encounter.

Pursuing Our Passions in a World of Need

In this interactive workshop you will explore your passions and how they relate to the rapidly changing world around you. Through the activities and discussion uour understanding of yourself deepen as you get a clearer vision about the road ahead. Through a mind-expanding time-travel exercise, you will free up your imagination and consider new solutions. Participants walk away with fresh ideas, feeling affirmed about what they care about most, and with a new sense of purpose. Peterson, a skilled facilitator both in person and on-line, has led workshops at universities, conferences, places of workshops, and for climate advocates in the USA, Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Norway.

Peterson is the co-host of Bible Bash Podcast. He is currently offering his film, Transfigurations–Gender Outlaws in the Bible, for free streaming.

If you would like to have Peterson visit one of your classes, see his current on-line offerings.

After spending 17 years and over $30,000 on three continents attempting to become masculine and heterosexual through conversion therapy, Peterson Toscano came out a quirky queer Quaker concerned with human rights. His film,Transfigurations—Transgressing Gender in the Bible explores the stories of gender non-conforming Bible characters; his Bible scholarship has been featured in The Oxford Handbook of the Bible in America.

Transfigurations accomplishes several fairly extraordinary things. It speaks into the fraught intersection of religion and LGBTQ issues, and, without pretending neutrality, welcomes audience members with widely divergent perspectives. It is accessible to people who have never cracked open a Bible, while offering meaningful insights to biblical scholars and other experts. It is intellectually rigorous but grounded in emotion, spirit, and body.
