The Bible has been used as a weapon against trans* and gender non-binary people.
These attacks have traumatized many of us and driven some out of faith communities. The intersection of faith, orientation, and gender have been undermined and some community members suffer from the religious based abuse.
Those who have been attacking our community, our freedoms, and our pursuit of happiness claim their moral authority comes from the Bible. They literally hide behind ancient texts as they promote modern oppression.
In order to disrupt, trouble, and undermine the negative influence of anti-LGBTQ readings of the text, J Mase III and Peterson Toscano offer this workshop to unearth sexual and gender minorities as they appear in the Bible as positive characters that are essential to the stories in which they appear.
In addition to revealing gender outlaws in a variety of Bible stories, the presentation also serves as a performance meditation on gender and gender diversity, both in the Bible texts and in modern life.
